SARAH:
Volunteering as a navigator for RightRides has been a fantastic experience and a lot of fun in the short time that I’ve been involved. It took me a few months to finally myself to an orientation but I’m so happy that I did! I have had a great time meeting new people each shift allowing me to find new music, movies, and places I should check out and be able to share the same with others. It’s also great to know that you’re also helping others get a safe ride home because if you’re like any other New Yorker you’ll know how difficult and sometimes unsafe it can be trying to get home late at night.
I wish I had found out about this sooner, honestly. Not only do I help people get home and meet awesome new people, but I get to ride around in a car listening to some great jams with great conversation flowing. I’m a transplant from Tallahassee, FL and it makes me feel at home when I’m in a car versus the subway. It’s a luxury you don’t realize until it’s taken away.
There’s a beauty about the city at night as well that’s very satisfying to see when doing something for a good cause like RightRides. It’s pretty amazing and I can only hope to spread the word and get more people involved in volunteering and helping out to really know what it is I’m talking about.
