What is Safe Walk?
Safe Walk is made possible by bike patrol
volunteers. Patrols are teams of two or more volunteers who ride their
own bikes, wear designated RightRides Patrol vests, and safely escort
callers by walking them to their destination. More info about
the basics of this program is
here.
Do I need my own bike?
Yes, we require Safe Walk volunteers to own their own bicycles (sorry,
no motorized vehicles).
Can I join an established patrol?
Yes, once we get 2007 Teams going! Often
times there are vacancies in existing Teams – it’s a
great way to meet other safety-minded people.
and we'll put you in
touch with a Team Leader. Please let us know if you have a neighborhood
preference or if you are able to help where ever there is a spot
open.
Can I start my own?
Yes. If you'd like to be a Team Leader,
to let us know!
Please note that all new Team Leaders must go through an informal Orientation
- as we like to meet everyone and answer any questions you
may have in person.
Team Leaders will then be responsible for establishing the
area they'd like to cover, the time/day their Team will operate Safe Walk, helping
promote the program, orienting new Team members
about the program and (the super simple) dispatch system. We provide flyers,
dispatch cards, training manuals and program supplies!
This is a really fun, easy way to volunteer and increase street safety in your
neighborhood!
Where are there Teams established already?
As of the summer, we're still seeking 2007 Team Leaders to make Safe
Walk happen. We'll update this space as soon as Teams become established!
What do you cover in Orientation?
In Orientation, we’ll go over the training manual, events of
a typical night, the Safe Walk dispatch system, and rules and regulations
of volunteering for the Safe Walk program.
When is the next Orientation?
TBA
to RSVP for Orientation and to get involved with Safe Walk!
