Position: Promotional Outreach Coordinator
(year round)
Program:  RightRides

The Promotional Outreach Coordinator will be working to support the RightRides program.   RightRides offers a free ride home for women, trans and gender queer individuals, currently every Saturday night from Midnight – 3 AM Sunday in 19 NYC neighborhoods.

Coordinators will be responsible for managing the promotional and outreach aspects for the RightRides program.

RightRides seeks extremely motivated, independent individuals with strong “can do” work ethic.  Coordinators will gain uniquely valuable experience with an award-winning, progressive nonprofit experiencing rapid growth. 

This position will be approximately 90% time spent in the field and 10% in the office.  Coordinators should be available between 5-10 hours per week for a period of 4-6+ weeks or as determined with Executive Director.

We maintain a professional, yet casual office environment in the Dumbo neighborhood in Brooklyn.  If Coordinators are students seeking credit, we will work with your institution in completing requirements for approval of school credit.   Upon successful completion, Coordinators will have opportunities to develop networking contacts within the crime prevention, anti-violence and non profit communities. RightRides For Women’s Safety offers strong reference and resume-building experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establish outreach goals with assistance of Executive Director (ED); adhere to schedule to successfully complete objectives.  Lead weekly or bi-monthly check-ins to inform ED of progress

  • Internet research to identify key outreach areas in current and upcoming service neighborhoods.

  • Prepare outreach materials as needed such as photocopying, gathering supplies as needed.

  • Distribute outreach materials in RightRides service neighborhoods.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Course work in communications, business studies, non profit management, public affairs, Women’s and/or LGBTQ studies.

  • Strong proficiency with internet research essential.

  • Excellent oral and written command of English grammar and spelling; ability to effectively manage and present information to all parties as required. 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Candidates must be able to demonstrate ability to take direction, function independently, prioritize duties and manage time effectively, while working to meet deadlines. 

Successful candidate will also have a friendly, outgoing nature and ability to act as the liaison between organization and community groups to explain service if needed.

Candidates must also have a strong interest in violence prevention, women’s and LGBTQ safety.

  • Communicate via email with volunteers regarding scheduling.  Update volunteer calendar as needed.

  • Organize and manage volunteer materials, replenishing volunteer supplies as needed

  • Maintain volunteer files and volunteer database and assist with minor errands such as photocopying as related to the RightRides program.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA/BS, or working towards degree, with minimum of 3 years college completed with course work in communications, business studies, non profit management, public affairs, Women’s and/or LGBTQ studies.

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and internet/library research essential.

  • Excellent oral and written command of English grammar and spelling; ability to effectively manage and present information to all parties as required.

The Operations Intern will be working to support the Safe Walk program.   Safe Walk organizes volunteers owning bicycles to form Bike Patrols, which offers free walking escorts to anyone not wishing to walk alone in various NYC neighborhoods.

Community Sponsorship Intern

RightRides seeks motivated, confident, outgoing individuals with strong communication skills and a keen interest in developing local sponsor relationships on behalf of RightRides.  Interns will gain uniquely valuable experience with an award-winning, progressive nonprofit experiencing rapid growth and largely untapped fund development potential.

This position will be approximately 60% time spent in the field and 40% in the office.  Telecommuting to accomplish certain duties is a strong option.  Interns should be available between 10-15 hours per week for a period of no less than 10 weeks.  RightRides For Women’s Safety will assist Interns and their educational institution in completing requirements for approval of college/graduate school credit.   

We maintain a professional, yet casual office environment in the Dumbo neighborhood in Brooklyn.  Interns will work closely with the Executive Director and upon successful completion have opportunities to develop networking contacts within the crime prevention, anti-violence and non profit communities. RightRides For Women’s Safety offers strong reference and resume-building experience.

  • Internet, library and trade journal research to generate local sponsorship and fund development leads

  • Contact potential and current local sponsors both in the field and online, regarding the RightRides program and fund development campaign. Follow up with leads to secure sponsorship.

  • Build and maintain sponsor/development database

  • Prepare sponsor/fund development reports (composed of both narrative section and financial spreadsheet) for public distribution

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA/BS, or working towards degree, with minimum of 2 years college completed with course work in communications, fund development, non profit management, marketing, Women’s or LGBTQGNC studies

  • Those with experience in fund/sponsorship development, fund raising campaigns preferred

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and internet research required.

  • Excellent oral and written command of English grammar and spelling; ability to effectively analyze and present information to all parties as required.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Successful candidates will have a friendly, outgoing nature and ability to engage potential sponsors about the program to generate and retain leads; possess initiative to identify, track and follow up with leads; ability to act as the liaison between organization and sponsors; ability to prepare reports and work with a number of key groups:  sponsors and their staff, Executive Director and general RightRides volunteers as needed.  

Candidates must be able to demonstrate ability to function independently, prioritize duties, manage multiple projects simultaneously, while paying close attention to details and working well under deadlines.  Candidates must also have a strong interest in violence prevention, women’s and LBTQGNC safety, plus raising funds for a great cause!

Special Events Intern

Program:  Neighborhood Safety Meetings

Speical Events Interns will be working to support the Neighborhood Safety Meetings program.   This program is a great asset for educating the community about street and personal safety while addressing general safety concerns.

RightRides seeks motivated, creative individuals with strong communication skills and a keen interest in developing relationships with potential panelists and similar anti-violence/community-based non profit organizations on behalf of RightRides For Women’s Safety to successfully host Neighborhood Safety Meetings. 

Interns will gain uniquely valuable experience with an award-winning, progressive nonprofit experiencing rapid growth. Interns will contribute “hands-on” to this program, bringing meetings to one neighborhood at a time, on a city wide basis.

This position will be approximately 40% time spent in the field and 60% in the office.  Telecommuting to accomplish certain duties is a strong option.  Interns should be available between 10-15 hours per week for a period of no less than 10 weeks. RightRides For Women’s Safety will assist Interns and their educational institution in completing requirements for approval of college/graduate school credit.

  • Building and maintaining panelist/venue database

  • Attending meetings and assisting during meetings as needed

  • Prepare narrative meeting reports for public distribution

The Special Events Intern will be working to support the Friends of RightRides Social and Distinguished Defender Awards, a semi-formal gala event which takes place in mid-September each year.

RightRides For Women’s Safety (RRWS) seeks a motivated, creative individual with strong communication skills and a keen interest in developing relationships with past and potential sponsors, donors and vendors on behalf of RRWS to successfully host our organization's largest annual fundraising event. 

Interns will gain uniquely valuable experience with an award-winning, progressive nonprofit experiencing rapid growth. Interns will contribute “hands-on” to this major event regarding all aspects from initial planning to completion. 

This position will be approximately 20% time spent in the field and 80% in the office.  Telecommuting to accomplish certain duties is a strong option.  Interns should be available between 10-15 hours per week for a period of no less than 10 weeks. RightRides For Women’s Safety will assist Interns and their educational institution in completing requirements for approval of college/graduate school credit.

  • Internet research to generate leads on sponsors, donors and vendors for the event and the silent auction

  • Seek and secure accessible venue to host event

  • Communicate via in-person, phone and email with potential sponsors, donors and vendors regarding the overall mission of organization and overview of the event in order to secure their support

  • Organize and manage central aspects of event both pre-, during and post-event by working closely with key Board Members on the Event Committee, the Executive Director and general RightRides volunteers as needed

  • Assist with preparing press releases about event and promoting event as needed

  • Maintain donor, sponsor and vendor database

  • Prepare brief report post-event for internal use

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA/BS, or working towards degree, with minimum of 2 years college completed with course work in communications, event planning, non profit management, public affairs, Women’s and/or LGBTQ studies.

  • Those with experience in program and/or event management preferred.
